Something new,
Something borrowed,
Something GREEN!
(Now I'd say that's 75% traditional and 25% savvy).
Still, weddings are a cultural tradition… so how much breaking of tradition can you, or do you want to get away with, before it doesn’t feel like a wedding anymore?
I think there is a misconception among some that a green wedding is essentially a minimalist event, a small party, simple back yard nuptials… And, some marrying couples seek just that, but a green wedding, is certainly not limited in this way! Signing up to be eco-friendly, conscious consumers when it comes to this very meaningful day in your lives, is not to throw wedding traditions in the gutter (that would be wasteful!)
There exists a myriad of wonderful wedding traditions for my clients to consider, and it is according to each unique pair to decide which of the many are key and significant to them.
But let’s touch on some of the basics…
Haven’t bought the ring yet? Look at:
Green Karat
Ecologically responsible wedding and commitment bands.
Don’t know what to do about all of that paper you’re supposed to send and label with? Look at:
Tree-free and recycled paper and plantable papers
Want to do favors, but don’t want to hand out kitsch? Look at:
The National Arbor Day Foundation
Give a tree!
People want to give you wedding gifts- but you don’t need more stuff? Look at:
Take donations!
As put by Consumer Reports: “The mission of this nonprofit is to connect people with the charities they support and make donating easy. Selecting from over 850,000 charities, couples can register online, list their favorite charities, and guests then make donations in the couple's name. The processing fee for the service is 3% of the donation, paid by the gift-giver. JustGive has an especially helpful FAQ section and a toll free customer service number, although the number is hard to locate and service hours are not listed. 877-JUST-GIVE”
And that’s just a taste of the classy steps you can take to green up your day! For many caterers, organics are a part of their sense of gourmet. Many wineries are adopting greener viticulture practices…
What better time to embrace your values? Green is chic. And what is a traditional wedding without a healthy helping of chic?
So, eat, drink, be merry - and make your choices count!
